Statement of Interest
Louis Laberge-Cote (Vice President 2022)
I am flattered to have been nominated for the position of Vice-President in 2022 and would be delighted to further contribute to the Healthy Dancer Canada Board of Directors by joining its team of Officers. I have extensive experience as a performer, choreographer, dance teacher, and mentor. I have collaborated with many professional artists and students working in different disciplines and dance forms, ranging from traditional and classical to experimental and avant-garde, often connecting with many cultural and minority groups. As a result of these experiences, I have acquired a broad perspective and a sincere appreciation of numerous dance and art practices, ethnocultural concerns, and political realities. I have worked diligently to develop a profound understanding of the local, provincial, national, and international dance scenes.
I have made concerted efforts to involve myself in administration and advocacy and have gained valuable experience through my years of service on the Boards and juries of various institutions and arts service organizations — including HDC, since 2019. I have also managed and self-produced several successful projects involving grant writing, contract negotiation, scheduling, budgeting, fundraising, networking, marketing, curation, and outreach.
I am wholeheartedly committed to my professional and artistic development. As a relatively recent full-time faculty member in a university dance program, I keep looking for new and innovative teaching methodologies so that my pedagogical practice is in line with the everchanging needs of the contemporary dance job market. Learning about different approaches to movement training, performance, well-being, and sustainable dance practice is precisely in line with my current research, pedagogical, and artistic interest. It is always enlightening to collaborate with artists, teachers, and health professionals who share similar interests. I thank you for your time and consideration. I would feel honoured and privileged to continue advancing Healthy Dancer Canada’s vision and further serve the dance sector in this new capacity.
