Breath: Comfort in the Constant (Corps Bara Dance Theatre)
Corps Bara Dance Theatre presents Breath: Comfort in the Constant, one of ten, guided art-watching for wellness films, 8 minutes in length.
Your breathing can alter the speed of a moment. An automatic function, breathing can also be controlled, slowing down time, shifting perspective and creating space. We can take comfort in the circular constancy of inspiration {filling, energizing} and expiration {emptying, releasing}.
The decline of people’s overall mental health, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, became the motivation for the piece, Breath, as well as the entire Resonant Soul film series. Through bringing in wellness exercises and guided meditations, alongside the dance performances, each film creates space for people to reflect and slow down.
With the challenge of hosting in person rehearsals and audience experiences over the past two years, Corps Bara has adapted to a virtual platform. This new direction has made the company more accessible to the global community and helped develop partnerships within the health and wellness sector. Already, we have connected with Ontario based organization, SoulPlay, that will include our films in their upcoming virtual retreat. This opportunity would not have been possible without adapting our methods of presentation and creating more accessibility to our work.
More information, including the rest of the Resonant Soul film series, can be found at www.corpsbara.com/resonant-soul
