jour après jour (Gabrielle Lowe)
“Jour après jour” explores the mundane of everyday life. The piece highlights 18 different artists and their relationship to various ‘everyday’ household objects, including their surroundings. How can we take these everyday things and find new curiosities, new inspiration, and/or purpose?
I believe that my work titled jour après jour would be a perfect portrayal of this year’s conference theme, Access, Adapt, Advance, as the dancers and myself have continued our
craft and passion for collaboration and art making throughout these unprecedented times. We have shown to be resilient and come together to lift each other and inspire one another to stay creative even throughout the darkest of times, and thus makes this film extremely special. This film truly represents the beauty of the mundane everyday life, each distinct in it’s own manner and how at times we can take this gift of life for granted. It would be an honor to present this film at this year's online conference as I believe art for the digital realm is extremely important as it is more accessible to all viewers, something we should be trying to achieve in the dance community. How can we make this accessible for all? Additionally, these online dance films allows us to find new meanings and ways of dance making’ and how dance is everywhere, we are always surrounded by movement,
regardless if it is presented on a stage or not.
Performers: Renee Smith, Barbara Sims, Clara Isgro, Dawson Lloyd, Emily Fisher, Janeyce
Guerrier, Katie Grace Louise, Madeline Friel, Mélina Patry, Natalie Smith,
Morgan Caroll, Sierra Kellman , Monique Paul, Sofia Ontiveros, Zachary
Bastille, Zoe Kwan, Chrystal Tam, Millina Fletcher.
