Breathwork for Dancers – How to use your breathe for an optimal performance (Sophie Manuela Lindner, Jens Nonnenmann)
Purpose: Every dancer knows the feeling of running out of breath. This workshop will teach dancers breathwork techniques from freediving and yoga to enhance their
breathing efficiency and CO2-tolerance. This will provide more oxygen to the muscle cells and therefore enhance the performance on stage.
Target population and experience level: This workshop is for dancers and movement artists who want to improve their performance, enhance their stamina and endurance, improve their physical and mental health and learn more about breathing in general.
Format: This is an interactive online workshop combining theory parts with practical exercises. All the techniques will be applied to dance typical situations.
Desired outcome(s): Participants will learn stretching and strengthening exercises of their diaphragm to increase their endurance, stamina, breathing efficiency and overall
well-being. They will learn to apply a daily breathwork routine, as well as dance specific breathing techniques to use before, during and after performance.
Relevance to conference theme: As healthcare practitioners we want to give the worldwide dance community access to medical and sports-scientific know-how in a
way that can be adapted for any dancer to advance in their artform.
